Frequently Asked Questions

Will we need a marriage license?
Anyone who marries in the state of Massachusetts must possess a marriage license issued from a city or town in Massachusetts. You may obtain a license from any city or town and get married in any other city or town within the commonwealth. The license is valid for sixty (60) days from the date you file your Intentions. For more complete information, visit mass.gov's website.

Will we need witnesses to get married?
No. Only the authorized officiant who will be performing your ceremony will sign the marriage license and return it to the city or town clerk’s office from which you obtained the license.

Will we get a marriage certificate or proof of marriage from you?
No. You may purchase a certified copy of your marriage license from the city or town from which you obtained the license. The original license stays with the city or town clerk. The certified copy will have a raised city or town seal, proving it is a true copy. Fees for certified copies vary by city and town.

Do you perform vow renewal ceremonies?
Yes, I love them! I also perform baby blessings and am available as a notary public.

What are your fees?
Wedding officiant fees for a basic or standard ceremony are set by state law and are the same for all justices of the peace, regardless of city or town. Justices may charge more than the statutory fee for providing supplemental services such as personalization of the ceremony and attending rehearsals, to name a few. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has set fees for basic services at $100 for in-town weddings, and $150 for out-of-town weddings. In-town is defined as the town where the officiant has been appointed and resides. Out-of-town is defined as any other community in Massachusetts.

Commitment Ceremonies, Renewal of Vows, and Rehearsals also available.
Please call 617-905-1376 to request pricing, optional services, and availability.

In recognition of the time, effort, and expertise necessary to produce your special day, a gratuity, while not necessary, would be greatly appreciated. Rest assured, however, that you will receive the same quality and attention to detail, regardless.

“Joe, thank you so much for being a part of our special day. We loved the ceremony you put together for us and enjoyed your company even more! Thank you again for everything!”

Meghan & Tim

“Joe was the first and last person I called when on the search for the right JP. I found him on FindaJP.com, read his profile, dialed him up, and the rest was history. Joe didn't rush our first phone call, instead he took time to get to know the couple he'd be working with, asking the right questions and reminding us that we are the priority. Planning a wedding is happy but stressful, and Joe really helped alleviate some of that stress by guiding us and helping us find our voice. We planned our wedding in just a few months too, and despite the rush, Joe remained on top of things and stayed in consistent communication. On the wedding day when I was nervous as all heck, he took me aside for a much-needed pep talk and totally shifted my mood. His leadership during our ceremony was incredible, and his fun energy radiated through the room. We got many comments from family and friends about how awesome our JP was, and we couldn't agree more. If you're in MA and debating on who to have officiate your wedding, book Joe. No doubts whatsoever, he's the perfect guy for your big day. 10/10!!!”
